4th INTERNATIONAL ART SYMPOSIUM
Art is a phenomenon whose borders and definitions have changed ever since its existence. A person, surrounded by missing definitions and boundaries, constantly enhances, probes and discovers himself/herself by masterminding as long as the very beginning of history to the present time and is in progress in the production of art. Art, the imitation of ideas as stated by Plato, became the expressions of artists in the 19th century and in Danto's words, turned into embodied meanings. Considering the process from the cave allegory to Alberti and from Duchamp to the present the dominant values and roles in art have continuously changed. In Kant's words, pure art which has its own definition… In the new world order, furthermore artists have played important roles. Such events as wars, economic depressions, social inequalities, rapidly advancing industry, rapid urbanization, etc. have driven the artists to be more sensitive. The basic logic of the important movements that gave rise to the breakings in the field of art has no longer healing aspects and does not contribute to humanity with its stereotyped values and definitions.
Artists, who have a specific insight rather having all the expected artistic values have opened the door to completely innovative understandings with its destructive, shocking and surprising approaches. Accordingly many artists have been the pioneers of new understandings and approaches within their crucial roles. The roles undertaken by leading artists in today's art events have encouraged new initiatives; contributed to the emergence of new actors in the field of art. The main question is what kind of a difference pioneer artists created and what the facts shold be for determining the roles of today's art practices and approaches.
The purpose for existance and the definition of art, which is transformed with the flow of life, continues to transform with the structure and virtuality we live in, and the leading roles in art continue to change.
New production areas have been added to the broad discourse field of art. What is dominant in this field where all our experiences are reshaped? Although the starring is not a new definition to be filled, it is the struggle for existence in art. Is it form, content, function that has been the subject of constant debate from past to present? Or is it virtuality, reality, technology, which are indispensable for the changing world?
Starring, which constitutes the conceptual framework of the 4th International Art Symposium of Bodrum Faculty of Fine Arts, invites researchers to discuss and interpret what and what is in the starring role of art, with a multi-dimensional and interdisciplinary approach.
